Veggie Tales,Green Then Orange!

The pediatrician gave us the green light at 4 months to start on veggies! He broke it down by color…green first! I was so excited to go and get any veggies that were green that I could roast then put in my ninja, pop it into ice cube trays and freeze! I went to the grocery and got a baggie of English peas, and green beans I set the oven to 400 degrees and put them on a sheet tray for 15-20 minutes with nothing on them. That night I gave her, her first bite of real food…at first she was totally confused and kept smacking her lips the second bite was way more interesting, then the third bite you could tell she was in love with green beans!

Then after that we got to move on to the orange vegetables this included sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and carrots! This one was way more fun because they have more sugars in them so I knew Layla would chow down on them! I didn’t add anything but water to them when I put them in the ninja and I kept finding my self munching on it as I was feeding it to her, its actually really good!! Her favorite of course is sweet potatoes because they are so sweet, she literally takes the bowl out of my hand and puts her whole face in it! Next week we move on to another color I am not sure yet, I know at 6 months is when we can start on fruit and that will be fun!!

Veggie Recipe:

1 pound of any vegetable

1/4 cup water

1 sheet tray

Blender

Ice Cube Trays

Labeled Ziplock Bags

Preheat oven to 400 degrees, cover the sheet tray in foil, arrange the vegetables by type roast each one for 15-20 minutes till they are soft. Next place small batches in a blender with 1/4 cup water to help it get the consistency right. Pour into a ice cube tray and freeze over night, pop out and put in to labeled zip lock bags. Put 1 cube in a micowaveable bowl for 40 seconds, add a tablespoon of formula if it is to thick and fed to baby!
