5 Month Update..Late!!

Layla is 5 months already! Where did the time go?? We were at the pediatrician last week she weights 13.07pounds and is 24.5 inches long. She is still wearing 3-6 month clothes and they are finally not hanging off her! Her diaper size is still a 1 but I am running out so we will move to size 2’s soon!  I have found what her favorite toy is…it’s her Activity center, she LOVES this thing and mommy doesn’t mind it either. There are lots of different songs so it hasn’t driven me to crazy yet! I have zero complaints about this Step n Play from Fisher Price and HIGHLY recommend it if you’re looking for one!
Layla is doing so well in her big girl crib! As hard as we try to keep her up she is exhausted and goes to bed by 7pm! Its nice to have some alone time just for mommy and daddy but now she likes to wake up at 630am! We still do the 4 B’s and it seems to work but I have been transitioning her from her Halo sleep sack to a Kyte sleep sack and this has been difficult because her little hands keep waking her up. But after her 4 month sleep regression and the sleep sack change she is semi getting back into her old sleeping habits of bed by 7, wake up to eat around 2am then up for good at 6:30. She also is a serial cap napper! 30 minutes or less in the morning and maybe one more around lunch, then from 2-4pm she gets a longer nap in (thank goodness)!
My pediatrician has her on veggies now, we started at 4 months with 2 weeks of rice cereal and then after that we moved to green veggies and she freaking loved them!! I have been making homemade food I get a bag of organic green beans, and peas pop them in the microwave and then throw them into my ninja with a little water. I pour the green mixture into ice cube trays, freeze them then put them into labeled baggies. It seems like a lot of work but I promise it’s not! At 5 months we started her on orange veggies and so far carrots are her jam!
Teething is in FULL effect as well! My poor babe is drooling up a storm and gnawing on everything!! We have a couple teething toys but she really loves cool cucumbers right now. I keep my fridge stocked with cucumbers, I take one out peel it and cut it into 2 inch chunks and she goes to town on them!
As far as mobilization she is on the go!! She is starting to crawl (ahhhhh!!) She can scoot on her back for many many feet, I finally realized what the Pack-n-Play was for! Also she has found her toes it’s so cute how she sucks on them. Just today she is sitting up on her own..ugh where did my sleepy, tiny baby go ;o(((

Eraclea Skin Care Review

I was recently turned on to a Dallas based skin care line that is super affordable, works phenomally and makes my skin feel brand new! Eraclea is a great mix of science and functionality. I live in West Texas and my main problem is hydration. That is why Eraclea has been revolutionary in giving me the products that actually hydrate and are light weight!

The first product I tested was the Eye Surround Cream. Eye Surround Cream it is a light, hydrating and firming cream designed specifically for the delicate eye area. It minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles under and around the eye as well as on the lid. Special proteins work to minimize the appearance of under-eye puffiness and dark circles, while firming the delicate, sensitive skin around the eyes. I love it because it feels airy but ultra moisturizing. I highly recommend it! $54 at Zap-it Med Spa & Laser Center in Dallas.

The second product I have fallen in love with is the Intensive Hydrating Day cream. It’s a rich, intensive formula that features naturally hydrating and moisture retaining ingredients. It generously supplies the skin with nutrients, peptides and antioxidants, and acts as a “second skin” to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while smoothing the skin. This intensive formula continues to retain and deliver water even when it feels dry on the surface of the skin. Basically, it makes my face feel like a baby’s butt and my makeup goes on much more smoothly! You can find it at Zap-it Dallas for $80.

The third product I can’t live with out is the Pure Hydration Syrum/Zinc. This product is revolutionary! it is perfect for stressed, irritated skin. This moisture-intensive serum draws on the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of zinc to promote healing while reducing redness. The serum delivers pure hyaluronic acid (the same substance used in injectable facial fillers!) to rejuvenate and replenish the skin. $85 at Zap-it.

Lastly, you have the invest in their Intensive Repair Vitamin C! It is a super intense treatment for skin with signs of aging. The HylaSponge®System works synergistically with the antioxidant vitamin C, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, to protect against cell damage, accelerate cell renewal, improve tone, texture, firmness and brightness, and guard against wrinkles. I have always used a Vitamin C and this one is the best one I have ever touched! Vitamin C is essential for even and bright tone and texture, and this one is gentle enough for sensitive skin, but totally effective! $80 at Zap-it.

I have fallin in love with Eraclea, and I am giving my honest opinion on these products. Eraclea is truly a hidden treasure, with extremely high quality ingredients at a more reasonable price than most pharmaceutical skin care lines. I highly recommend you visit Zap-it Dallas and get a better insight into this amazing skin care line! If you live out here like I do, call or e-mail the spa to place your order and have it shipped right to your door!

Four Month Sleep Regression

I had no idea this was going to happen to us! Layla was doing SO good sleeping through the night I was such a proud mom, bragging to everyone how my baby slept so good….then she turned 4 months and its like we regressed back to 2 months old. She started waking up every few hours, wanting to eat or just be held I had no idea what was happening then I googled it and sure enough it was a thing, this is what I found…

4 Month Sleep Regression: Baby Sleep Patterns Change Permanently

The 4 month sleep regression marks a permanent change in your baby’s sleeping habits. See, before your baby hit the 4 month mark, your baby’s sleeping patterns were very…well…babyish. What do I mean by that? Simply this – babies don’t have distinct sleep stages like we adults do. While we cycle between deep and light sleep, our babies don’t – they sleep deeply pretty much all the time. (This explains why newborns and very young infants tend to sleep anywhere, through anything!)

After 4 months, though, all bets are off! As your baby’s brain matures, around the 4 month mark, her sleeping patterns change – they become more like yours. Now, she is cycling between light and deep sleep – just like you. When you look at it this way, it’s clear that the 4 month sleep regression is a very normal, very healthy developmental milestone, just like learning to walk and talk. So if your baby is currently going through the 4 month sleep regression, congratulations – her growth and development is right on track!

But also, if your baby is currently going through the 4 month sleep regression – you have my deepest sympathies ;). That’s because (as many of you well know) your baby’s new ‘grown up’ sleep patterns produce WAY more night waking and short naps. Every time your baby cycles out of deep sleep and into slight sleep, theres a good chance she will wake up – and once she’s up, she will more thank likely need your help to fall back to sleep.

Here’s the thing to remember about the 4 month sleep regression: it doesn’t go away. It’s different in that sense than the other sleep regressions that happen at 8, 9, or 10 months, and the toddler seep regressions that happen at 18 months and 2 years old. Those sleep regressions ultimately pass in a few weeks, and your little one’s sleep returns to normal. Not so with this one. The changes that happen with the 4 month sleep regression are permanent.

But don’t let that thoroughly depress you! There are ways you can move past the 4 month sleep regression, and teach your baby a new way to sleep. We’ll get to those in a moment.

In the beginning, though, here’s our advice: cope as best you can. If you are in the early days of the regression, you are no doubt exhausted beyond all measure and feeling utterly frustrated. This is normal. Spend the next few days/weeks coping, while you formulate your sleep training plan.

How can you cope? Here are a few strategies you can use to encourage your baby to sleep more during the 4 month sleep regression:

  • Continue helping your baby fall asleep in the way he has been falling asleep up until now. If you’ve been nursing to sleep, keep doing it. Same with rocking or holding to sleep. Yes, these are sleep associations that will ultimately hinder your baby’s sleep, and that you’ll need to wean away from later. But don’t worry about that right now – for now, do what you need to do to help your baby fall asleep.
  • Swaddle and/or offer a pacifier. If you’ve been doing this (and it’s been working), keep it up. If you haven’t, try these as techniques to help soothe your fussy baby, and to promote sleep.
  • Offer a dream feed. This isn’t a fool-proof strategy, but it works well for some babies. Offer a dream feed and ‘top-off’ right before you go to bed, and it may help your baby sleep a bit longer at night.
  • Use the swing, if you have one. The swing can be a great way to soothe your fussy baby, and to help induce a nap that wouldn’t otherwise happen ;). Just be sure to supervise your baby while he’s sleeping in the swing – you don’t want to let him sleep there for long periods of time.
  • Ask for help! This is the time to lean hard on friends and family members. Let other people hang out with the baby while you take a nap.

Remember, these should all be viewed as short-term solutions. None of these will solve your 4 month old baby’s sleep problems; what they will do is help you rest up in preparation for starting to work on teaching your 4 month old baby a new way to sleep.

SO I  am going to try some of these ideas and see how things work out. Another reason she may be not sleeping well is because she’s teething. I will write a blog on that next!
